Natasha Kyssa is a former international model who has been a raw and living foods vegan for almost twenty years. At the age of forty-seven, she leads an active lifestyle and trains daily, including rock climbing, long distance running, hiking, skiing, yoga, pilates, and cycling. She attributes her strength, well-being, and youthfulness to her raw and living foods diet.

3 Stars Informative but overcomplicated
This book has some very good information, but it is delivered in an overcomplicated and rather intimidating way. If you have already experienced raw food eating you might learn something new, but novices should avoid this book and instead purchase ‘The Raw Revolution’ or ‘The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Eating Raw’.

5 Stars Time to Detox!
You know the feeling you get when you finally break down and clean out that “file drawer” in your desk that you have been avoiding? If you are like me, it’s a feeling of great satisfaction and accomplishment. I have been putting off doing a good “detox” program for myself for a while even though I wanted to and knew I should… after reading Natasha’s book and incorporating her suggestions I made a commitment and did it! And you know what? I have the same feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment as cleaning out the “file drawer” but better energy levels and less wear and tear on the paper shredder. Hey, I figure that if I’m going to be diligent about the oil changes on my car I should at least give my body the same courtesy.

5 Stars An Inspiring Approach to Raw
The SimplyRaw Living Food Detox Manual is a motivational read. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. After raiding the natural foods store to purchase the materials, I immediately was drawn to the kitchen to start experimenting. As a vegan, I tried “Raw” diets in the past and found that they did not work. I’ve read several other books, which included recipes or suggestions that typically required too many nuts and heavy foods as prime calorie sources, however, these foods tended to inhibit proper digestion.

Natasha’s approach is fun (and delicious) and considers that an excess of oils/nuts can be an obstacle to feeling great. She has pages and pages of easy to make recipes. She also mentions alternatives for those with Candida (another ailment many of us grapple with).

Her writing is so supportive and encouraging. She stresses that this is a 28-day detox, not a “forever” program. However, I have found her approach to be one that I will continue even after the 28 days is complete. Granted, my diet was already 50% raw and full of sprouted foods prior to reading this book… so it wasn’t a huge transition. I can see that this would be a greater adventure for someone on a standard North American diet, as he or she would likely receive much more dramatic improvement in their health. If I already feel this great… I can only imagine how amazing someone who currently eats processed foods, meats, and refined sugars will feel after this detox! In addition to recipes, there are also household and lifestyle tips that can help remove the toxins from your external surroundings. The book is surely a springboard to wellness.

I encourage anyone who just wants to be bold, improve their health/energy, and go on a 28-day culinary exploration to please implement this program!

Murray’s book is so full of useful nutrition information, the occasional missing piece is forgivable. The book’s title notwithstanding–the body as car needing a tune-up is a bit rusty–Murray writes with a knack for metaphor. (Phase II detoxification in the liver is “like handcuffing the toxin so it can be escorted out of the body by the biological equivalent of security guards.”) Citations for the clinical research articles he pulls from would have been useful for readers seeking more information. Still, this is a must-have reference for anyone who wants to move toward the promise of well-being, whether readers have a medical condition or want to prevent health problems. –Rebecca Taylor

5 Stars Excellent Book
This is another excellent book by Dr. Murray. I highly recommend any of Dr. Michael Murray’s books–he is an acclaimed naturopath who provides excellent insight into the workings of the human body. This book itself is very straightforward, well organized and contains loads of information. Well done!

5 Stars One of the best I’ve ever read!
What can I say? Dr. Michael Murray is still one of the very best and most instructive of all Naturopaths I’ve ever seen live at health conventions. His books are pure gems of how to self-diagnose and heal yourself of all kinds of difficult health problems, including Phase I and Phase II detoxification problems in the liver…explained in great detail, actually. I loved Total Body Tune-Up because I already do a bit of health counseling and a LOT of study of natural health and healing. Dr. Murray filled in some blanks for me regarding some of the mystery health problems.

I am still working on healing the last 15-20% of a damaged immune system/environmental illness….so anything that can knock off the last few stubborn problems is WONDERFUL news to me. :-) There are only two things I do not intend to be without from now on: my beloved (organic, therapeutic) Young Living Essential Oils and natural healing advice from Dr. Michael Murray!

Since first reading this book about 7 weeks ago, I have purchased another 3 copies and given them as gifts. “Total Body Tune-Up” THAT significant of a book.:-)

Dr. Murray, please come back to the Syracuse area.. We want to hear you speak AGAIN!

5 Stars great anecdotes, author believes in what he’s recommending
This is a manageable, user-friendly approach to lifestyle changes that can have lasting effects on health, well-being and physical appearance.

I appreciate that the author combines the best of his findings from naturopathy as well as western medicine. His writing voice is friendly and nonjudgmental. He provides true stories of how his often simple natural dietary/lifestyle prescriptions remedied patients’ health issues. This book had some hard truths about my favorite vices, but these are why I wanted to read it.

This is my favorite book on health, and I strongly recommend it to anyone wishing to improve their health in a effective and natural way. Its superbly written, and you have a hard time putting it down. Its a easy read and you will feel like implementing it right away. And it works!!! I have used it for everything from curing colds fast to loosing weight. My parents have received a copy for lowering cholesterol and blood presure …in the natural way!
