Most others give various recipes and regimens to accomplish some form of detoxification without providing sufficient background information to understand how it is supposed to work and why.  The author of this book starts with why you should detoxify, the five principles of balanced health, and the seven most important steps.  People are much more likely to follow through when they know what to expect and understand why they are doing it.  Written in an easy-to-read style the author explains concepts very clearly without introducing any unnecessary complications.  Detox and Revitalize is highly recommended and especially so for those new to detoxification who want to gain a broad understanding of the purpose and process. </p>

<p>Susana L. Belen&#8217;s Detox and Revitalise is easy to read and has a wealth of information in it regarding diet, nutrition, excercise, detoxification, juicing, fasting, and stress management-to name just a few. She also has many suggestions for a balanced diet and lifestyle to increase ones overall health and well being.</p>
<p>I am already involved in alternative health and health foods and I still found many useful ideas. Ironically, I was given this book as a gift the day I bought a take-away dinner for friends. Afterwards we all felt sick and lacking in energy- a timely reminder while reading about the benefits of eating well and detoxification!! </p>

    This book has really inspired me and my daughter to eat more raw food on a daily basis. We really notice our energy levels improving. The book outlines a detoxification semi-fast that we were able to do for two days. The book recommends a week. </p>
<p>Some of it is a little too difficult for those of us who have 9-5 jobs and families, but in general the suggestions are easy to follow and have really quick pay-offs: more energy, no circles under the eyes, no water retention, belly gets flatter quickly, and skin clears up! It&#8217;s no wonder that a lot of actresses go to the author&#8217;s spa regularly!</p>
<p>Another good thing about the book is that it gives smoothies and simple recipes that my 11 year old can easily make. It puts everything together into a plan that works and has lots of suggestions for how to modify the plan based on practicalities.</p>

    I&#8217;ve often been attracted to fasting over the years, partly because of being fat, but mostly as a spiritual discipline and practice.<br />
<br />However i have also been singularly unable to properly do it, never lasting more than 4 days. That won&#8217;t start me from continuing to try, only a warning that i can not practice what they are preaching.</p>

<br />This book struck me then as being heads and shoulders above the rest, it is literally the only one of the pile i&#8217;d actually recommend reading.</p>
<p>First, she is just simply a passionate and interesting writer, in her case practicing what she preaches consistently over the years.<br />
<br />Second, she is aware of the spiritual dimension not just of herself and people but of the topic-fasting. None of the other books even gave it (spiritual dimension) a passing note, except in one case that referenced fasting as a buddhist spiritual pathway. It is a significant part of the book, of her practice and i think of the topic in general. Even in our materialistic age, fasting as a spiritual discipline, as a spiritual exercise is obvious enough to at least warrant attention.</p>
<p>The book is half way between a polemic and a how to do book. It&#8217;s first priority is to relax people and lead them into her particular 3 day fasting program. To take us by the hand, convince us that reading the book is just a first however good and necessary step, only that a first step, the second step is to commit to doing it. If the idea just stays in her book, without anyone practicing it, she will have counted the book a lose. The how to do section is mostly step by step, chapter by chapter introduction to the why and how of her fasting program, with attention paid to keeping a journal and asking yourself sets of related questions as you go along.</p>
<p>It is advice like keeping a journal (i think one of the most important things a person can do, to talk to themselves through time in a systematic way), doing particular kinds of juices during different parts of the day and of the fast, silence, bathing, exercise etc that are the reasons this book is superior to the average one i picked from the shelves. It&#8217;s specificity, its instructions borne of experience, the structure inherent in following her particular plan for a 3 day fast. These beat the rest of the genre hands down with their generalities and nonspecific friendly advice.</p>
<p>Its a breezy read, i practiced my speed reading techniques on it, if you are going to do her fast, you&#8217;ll need your own copy, the organization is by the day of the fast. The best part of the book is probably the 1st chapter &#8220;Take my life, please&#8221; which is her story and how she got to where she was when she wrote the book, so start reading there to see if you like the book. It could benefit with a little more medical advice or to science of what is going on inside during a fast. It could use some pointers to longer fasts and advice on where to go from here, just enough to tie this book into the literature and the field. Like i said above the spiritual dimension is obvious and part of her process, it would be nice to have tied it into particular religious traditions a little more, but that is difficult without driving other people away. And there is nothing in the book that attempts to do anything but attract and soothe people, trying to pull them into her fasting program.</p>
<p>so it achieves it&#8217;s goals, looks ok to try, is a competent and interesting book. if you&#8217;re interesting in the topic, at least read the first chapter. </p>
<p> <strong style="color:#ffd000; background-color:#fafafa">4 Stars</strong>  <em>Just What I Needed!</em><br />
    I decided to do the 3-Day Energy Fast right after New Year&#8217;s.  It was exactly what I needed after the holidays.  During the three days, I felt great mentally and spiritually.  Physically, I experienced some caffeine withdrawal (which is addressed in the book)that passed without too much discomfort.  What I really liked about the book was the way that Serure not only provided me with recipes and menus for the three days of drinking juices and vegetable broth, she also included suggestions for meditations, walks and journalling.  This was truly a mind-body-spirit experience!  And, I was not hungry at all during the fast.  My only criticism of the book is that it does not provide the reader with enough information about how to change eating habits after the fast is complete.  While Serure does address what to eat immediately following the fast, I would have liked more information about how to change eating habits on an ongoing basis. </p>
<p> <strong style="color:#ffd000; background-color:#fafafa">1 Stars</strong>  <em>dissapointed in the &#8220;new&#8221;(and unenlightened) age</em><br />
    If you are interested in learning about the healthy benefits and factual information on nutrional fasting and detoxification this is not the book for you.  Serure&#8217;s ideas on the benefits of healthy nutrition and the need  to reduce stress in one&#8217;s life as well as examine fundamental  aspects that  make us unhealthy are well meaning.  But like so many alternative health  guides today, its credibility comes into question with her descriptions of  &#8220;psychic visions&#8221;, new age superstition,as well as descriptions  of visits from dead friends from the nether world (Really, would you trust  someone like this with your health?)  Starting out on the right track to  healing she asks the reader, as a part of her healing program, to take a  step back into ignorance and delusion (and eventually unhealthy denial), by  surrendering to a higher being. Is this what unhealthy people need&#8211;to bury  themselves in more unrealistic dogma?  Lets get real, boycott ignorance by  not purchasing this book. </p>

    I&#8217;ve done this cleansing program for 3 years now and love it.  It really works and the juice recipes are easy and taste good.  I&#8217;ve recommended it to all of my friends when they are feeling run down and just need a few days to themselves to get rested and healthy again. </p>

    My reactions to this book, and to the fasting method it promotes, are mixed.  I have strong suspiciouns that, like most self-help books, the need to pad a small amount of essential information has led her to add many  things that don&#8217;t need to be there&#8211;the daily routine she prescribes is  utterly unrealistic for a person eating three solid meals, let alone  existing only on juice and broth.  But my biggest complaint is with the  juice recipes, which she clearly has never actually made.  About the  &#8220;morning drink&#8221; recipe, made in a blender, she says, &#8220;If  there&#8217;s any left over, have that for an afternoon pick me up.&#8221;  Lady,  if you follow your recipe, it makes nearly a half gallon of the stuff.   Sorry, but I&#8217;m getting a little cynical about the new age cash cow. </p>

    I bought this ages ago and then was disappointed because it didn&#8217;t really seem like a detox plan. I think of a detox as going for a period of time drinking tons of fruit juice or the like and at the end you&#8217;re supposedly glowing with good health and have lost 10 pound of &#8220;toxins&#8221; from your digestive tract. </p>
<p>This isn&#8217;t really that so I didn&#8217;t spend much time on this book. </p>
<p>Recently I looked at it again and realised it&#8217;s actually pretty good as a general guide to good health&#8230; and more. It&#8217;s kind of a guide to getting your act together. It&#8217;s very holistic -covering a broad range of topics. They not only tell simple ways to eat right but also list a lot of other things you should consider if you&#8217;re trying to improve your sense of well being - skin care, style, rest, habits that kill your energy&#8230; Actually I&#8217;ve been looking for something like this for a while and didn&#8217;t realise I had it all along. </p>
<p>Stay Young Detox is a misnomer. This is a practical guide for any age on how to create the basis for good health and positive self esteem. </p>

    This book has some very good information, but it is delivered in an overcomplicated and rather intimidating way.  If you have already experienced raw food eating you might learn something new, but novices should avoid this book and instead purchase &#8216;The Raw Revolution&#8217; or &#8216;The Complete Idiot&#8217;s Guide to Eating Raw&#8217;. </p>

    You know the feeling you get when you finally break down and clean out that &#8220;file drawer&#8221; in your desk that you have been avoiding? If you are like me, it&#8217;s a feeling of great satisfaction and accomplishment. I have been putting off doing a good &#8220;detox&#8221; program for myself for a while even though I wanted to and knew I should&#8230; after reading Natasha&#8217;s book and incorporating her suggestions I made a commitment and did it! And you know what? I have the same feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment as cleaning out the &#8220;file drawer&#8221; but better energy levels and less wear and tear on the paper shredder. Hey, I figure that if I&#8217;m going to be diligent about the oil changes on my car I should at least give my body the same courtesy. </p>
<p> <strong style="color:#ffd000; background-color:#fafafa">5 Stars</strong>  <em>An Inspiring Approach to Raw</em><br />
    The SimplyRaw Living Food Detox Manual is a motivational read. Once I started,  I couldn&#8217;t put it down.  After raiding the natural foods store to purchase the materials, I immediately was drawn to the kitchen to start experimenting.  As a vegan, I tried &#8220;Raw&#8221; diets in the past and found that they did not work.  I&#8217;ve read several other books, which included recipes or suggestions that typically required too many nuts and heavy foods as prime calorie sources, however, these foods tended to inhibit proper digestion. </p>
<p>Natasha&#8217;s approach is fun (and delicious) and considers that an excess of oils/nuts can be an obstacle to feeling great.  She has pages and pages of easy to make recipes.  She also mentions alternatives for those with Candida (another ailment many of us grapple with).</p>
<p>Her writing is so supportive and encouraging.  She stresses that this is a 28-day detox, not a &#8220;forever&#8221; program.  However, I have found her approach to be one that I will continue even after the 28 days is complete.  Granted, my diet was already 50% raw and full of sprouted foods prior to reading this book&#8230; so it wasn&#8217;t a huge transition.  I can see that this would be a greater adventure for someone on a standard North American diet, as he or she would likely receive much more dramatic improvement in their health.  If I already feel this great&#8230;  I can only imagine how amazing someone who currently eats processed foods, meats, and refined sugars will feel after this detox! In addition to recipes, there are also household and lifestyle tips that can help remove the toxins from your external surroundings.  The book is surely a springboard to wellness. </p>
<p>I encourage anyone who just wants to be bold, improve their health/energy, and go on a 28-day culinary exploration to please implement this program!  </p>

<p> Murray opens each chapter with a symptom checklist, so  readers can prioritize the needs of the various body  systems&#8211;digestive, cardiovascular, reproductive, and so on&#8211;as high,  medium, or low. He then explains how each system works when healthy,  inspiring an odd affection for all the organs needing nutritional  support, from the brain to the thymus. (&#8221;If the entire absorptive  area of the small intestine were laid flat, it would be the size of a  tennis court.&#8221;) Because naturopaths practice holistic medicine, he  covers stress, humor, and optimism, and gives dosages and brand names  for hundreds of supplement regimens. Murray&#8217;s book is so full of  useful nutrition information, the occasional missing piece is  forgivable. (Most Americans adults, he writes, eat 100 pounds of sugar  and at least 40 pounds of &#8220;other sweeteners&#8221; a year&#8211;yet he fails to  detail the health hazards of what&#8217;s inside those ubiquitous blue and  pink packets.)</p>
<p> The book&#8217;s title notwithstanding&#8211;the body as car  needing a tune-up is a bit rusty&#8211;Murray writes with a knack for  metaphor. (Phase II detoxification in the liver is &#8220;like handcuffing  the toxin so it can be escorted out of the body by the biological  equivalent of security guards.&#8221;)  Citations for the clinical research  articles he pulls from would have been useful for readers seeking more  information. Still, this is a must-have reference for anyone who wants  to move toward the promise of well-being, whether readers have a  medical condition or want to prevent health problems. <i>&#8211;Rebecca  Taylor</i></p>

    This is another excellent book by Dr. Murray.  I highly recommend any of Dr. Michael Murray&#8217;s books&#8211;he is an acclaimed naturopath who provides excellent insight into the workings of the human body.  This book itself is very straightforward, well organized and contains loads of information. Well done! </p>

    What can I say? Dr. Michael Murray is still one of the very best and most instructive of all Naturopaths I&#8217;ve ever seen live at health conventions.  His books are pure gems of how to self-diagnose and heal yourself of all kinds of difficult health problems, including Phase I and Phase II detoxification problems in the liver&#8230;explained in great detail, actually.  I loved Total Body Tune-Up because I already do a bit of health counseling and a LOT of study of natural health and healing.  Dr. Murray filled in some blanks for me regarding some of the mystery health problems.  </p>
<p>I am still working on healing the last 15-20% of a damaged immune system/environmental illness&#8230;.so anything that can knock off the last few stubborn problems is WONDERFUL news to me. <img src='http://allweightlossnow.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' />  There are only two things I do not intend to be without from now on: my beloved (organic, therapeutic) Young Living Essential Oils and natural healing advice from Dr. Michael Murray!</p>

    This is a manageable, user-friendly approach to lifestyle changes that can have lasting effects on health, well-being and physical appearance.</p>
<p>I appreciate that the author combines the best of his findings from naturopathy as well as western medicine. His writing voice is friendly and nonjudgmental. He provides true stories of how his often simple natural dietary/lifestyle prescriptions remedied patients&#8217; health issues. This book had some hard truths about my favorite vices, but these are why I wanted to read it. </p>
