5 Stars Is there Very Much Updated Material in this Edition?
I own the 2004 copy of Mastering Leptin. And I will say right now that I am slowly getting rid of all the other diet and nutrition books on my shelves because of it.
If you search for Leptin on sciencedaily.com, you’ll find many new studies that link Leptin to other issues we face. It’s far too important to ignore. I believe that Byron Richard’s books and podcasts are the best way to keep abreast of the new science that is unfolding, thanks to the Human Genome project. Mr. Richards must be reading constantly - and he can distill this information for us in a way that makes it easy for the layperson to understand and incorporate into our daily lives. I wish I had found out about it sooner - it would have saved me from countless fad diets.
One question I have is this; Is there enough new material in the Feb 2009 Edition of Mastering Leptin to warrant replacing my current one from 2004? If anyone out there has read both, please comment and let me know.
4 Stars Mastering Leptin
It is clear that this book is written for laymen, and, as I am one, it works for me! The information is carefully explained, and layered one concept on another. This leads to some repetition, but each chapter has a summary, in case you prefer to scan through.
The subject was new to me - never knew we had a hormone named leptin, and its function. I found this information very helpful, as I am retirement age, have a stubborn weight problem, and fully intend to get healthier and stay healthy. Finding this book feels as if there are some real answers!
5 Stars Your Best Shape
I competed as a natural bodybuilder before, and the information in Mastering Leptin explains everything you need to get in your best shape ever. Looking back, there are some things I could have done after reading this book that would have prevented unnecessary cravings. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to save time and/or frustration getting in shape. It’s also more thorough than The Leptin Diet.
5 Stars Helpful Information
I bought this book looking for help for a 10-yr. old who is morbidly obese, and whom his Drs. haven’t been able to help. I got a lot of useful information from the book but it wasn’t an easy-read. Following the basic directions of the book has improved my energy and well-being, and I have even lost a few pounds without dieting! I am hopeful that it will benefit my grandchild.
5 Stars Get the Skinny.
This is a good book. Richards makes a lot of sense. The only thing I would disagree with him on is whole grain bread. I cannot eat it without gaining a lot of weight - even a little bit. I found I have to stay away from it as well as caffeine. I guess everyone is different!!!!
