5 Stars PLEASE BUY this book!
This is an amazing book! It’s for all ages because its just that straight forward and easy to understand. After reading this book I gave up cooked foods, and came away with more knowledge than I could have ever imagined. I love this book and it will forever be one of my guides to true health and long life!
3 Stars Strangely contradictory
After tiring of vegan books, I found this book. Wow! If there is ever a book to put you OFF raw food, this is it. I appreciate his optimism and positive attitude. However, this book leaves you in a lurch between health and advocating practices that may not be in your best interest. (Who can drink 5 glasses of H20 upon waking? Why would you only eat 1 meal a day as a general rule?) The author shares his experience, but his experience is very unique due to health conditions.
The expert interviews frankly freaked me out in their varied responses. Some are for sprouting. Others hate it. There’s an air of “we know better than the medical establishment,” but without having taken the time to actually go through medical school. The before and after photos were not unlike anorexia. The symptoms they describe are not “detox,” but shared with anorexics. (hair loss, teeth rot, aches). Scary stuff that will harm more than help.
It’s 2008. We’ve evolved. I’m lazy. I wanted to have meals without cooking. This book has me going back to the kitchen! If you love yourself, eat salads and fruits and skip this confusing, contradictory, cultish book.
3 Stars Good info . . . but so annoying to read.
The book has really good information, I especially found the interviews very interesting. However the whole time I was reading this book I was as annoyed as if I were in some Japanese Pachinko store. I am not sure why Mr. Nison felt he had to ruin the strong, informative continents with childish gimmicks. But if youre into that sort of read . . . I highly recommend it.
4 Stars Excellent Book!
I got this book originally from the library. It is a very good book. It is simple to read and written by a real person. The author makes it fun to change your diet by giving you a story to play with where you have a team of characters that help you and a team that tries to thwart you. It puts a face behind the pitfalls and the strengths that you are confronted with as you change to a healthier life style. It makes it easier for success than I would otherwise have had. It is working for me and I’m not an easy person to change.
3 Stars For the Spirit of Going Raw-Not for Science or Recipes
Going raw can be exiting and confusing. Where are the answers? My research, yes, research, has lead me to believe it takes many sources to find out what it is, what to do, how to do it and how the process will go. Many complained about this book. To them I say they didn’t do their research for resources nor looked into what they were.
This book is a great motivator and has perspective on what the journey will be like. A better read for someone who has already gotten some understanding of what “raw” is about. The boxing analogy works well as a common motivator and to help understand the challenges of the process, though trite. More like a “diet” or “workout” regimen book might, like “Body for Life.”
Most of the “information” past along here, that’s real, is quoted from other authors that have some scientific background or degreed in some related field. Paul Nison doesn’t seem to have but experience, though not to take away from that. But, because of this, some of his beliefs seem based on little.
In all, if you are in the process of going raw this is a good book to have along with others to help you on the way.
