12 Steps to Raw Foods: How to End Your Dependency on Cooked Food

12 Steps to Raw Foods: How to End Your Dependency on Cooked Food

Why do we overeat time and time again? Why do we make poor diet choices while we want to be healthy? What makes losing weight so difficult? These and many other vital questions are addressed in 12 Steps to Raw Foods in an open and sincere dialogue. Based on the latest scientific research, Victoria Boutenko explains the numerous benefits of choosing a diet of fresh rather than cooked foods. This book contains self-tests and questionnaires that help the reader to determine if they have hidden eating patterns that undermine their health. Using examples from life, the author explores the most common reasons for people to make unhealthy eating choices.

Rather than simply praising the benefits of raw foods, this book offers helpful tips and coping techniques to form and maintain new, healthy patterns. Learn how to make a raw food restaurant card that makes dining with co-workers easy and enjoyable. Discover three magic sentences that enable you to refuse your mother-in-law’s apple pie without offending her. Find out how to sustain your chosen diet while traveling. These are only a few of the many scenarios that Boutenko outlines.

Written in a convenient 12-step format, this book guides the reader through the most significant physical, psychological, and spiritual phases of the transition from cooked to raw foods. Embracing the raw food lifestyle is more than simply turning off the stove. Such a radical change in the way we eat affects all aspects of life. Boutenko touches on the human relationship with nature, the value of supporting others, and the importance of living in harmony with people who don’t share the same point of view on eating. Already a classic, this enhanced second edition is aimed at anyone interested in improving their health through diet.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Stars dont buy this crap!
I have a deep love and respect for books, so when I tell you that this is the only book I have ever burned (!) then you will get my meaning on how useless this book is. This book is filled with crack ideas, out-there concepts, and is really quite useless. There is no reason why anyone would need this book to “end their dependency on cooked foods” I personally think this person is a whack job, and a total fraud. I bought the book for the recipies in the back, but soon found that most of them can be found on the internet, and if anyone unfamilar with raw foods looking at this book might think that all we eat is cookies, raw deserts, and pate. This book is hugely misleading, and a complete waste of time and money. Even the concept behind the book is quite pointless. Dont waste your time or money. There are allot of other people in the raw food movement that have written much better books, with beter recpies and have not been a rip off like this book. Actually, this author has one good book. Its called green for life. That is a book to own and read. This one however, looks to me like a money-making scheme, whose pages I didnt even bother to keep in my library.

5 Stars 12 Steps to Optimal Health
This book reveals how changing from the processed foods and traditional cooked foods lifestyle to a raw food lifestyle can be very difficult. Victoria explains how she discovered that a body that has been fed by processed and cooked foods has developed an addiction to the toxins of the processed foods and the heavily flavored but less nutritious cooked foods. She also shares that this is not just a physical change, but a mental and spiritual change as well. Just as with any addiction we may be struggling with, there are inner struggles that go deep into our hearts and minds that must be dealt with as well as the physical. We are complex beings who are more than just a physical body, we have an inner being who must be healed also along with our physical bodies. She developed a 12-step program to help those who want to transition to a more raw food lifestyle from their processed and cooked food lifestyle. This book is a must for anyone who wants to change their lifestyle to a raw living foods lifestyle because there will be inner personal as well as bodily struggles to deal with in transitioning to a healthier lifestyle.

5 Stars Could be a life changing book…
This book has the potential to be life changing for the reader. I do not know anyone on a raw-food diet, but I’ve heard of celebrities who eat that way, and I’ve always been intrigued by the diet.

Ms. Boutenko and her family had many health problems that have vanished since eating only raw foods (such as obesity, asthma, and diabetes). She is enthusiastic and made me WANT to try a raw food diet. It’s hard to read this book without wanting to change.

She speaks in plain readable English, answers any questions you may have, and deals with the emotional as well as physical problems you may face when changing the way you eat.

The last section of the book contains some helpful raw food recipes. I do not know if I will switch to a 100% raw food diet, but I do plan to try a few of her recipes - such as the green smoothies that help to eliminate junk food cravings.

5 Stars great book - great woman
what can i say? only this: if you love yourself and others in your life, then give this book a try - you got nothing to lose, yet so much to gain!

4 Stars It like having a supportive friend in the house
I really enjoyed this book. Victoria goes where others do not and provides good explanations that make you realise WHY raw food really is better. Her formula for making the perfect recipe is great too. Definitely glad I bought this book.
