User Ratings and Reviews

1 Stars Pure bunk.
This idea is the epitome of sophomoric. Raw food diets are NOT appropriate for domestic dogs, and are HARMFUL at best. Proponents make all kinds of wild claims just short of their dogs being able to run faster than a locomotive, catch bullets, and leap tall buildings with a single bound, but the fact is that there is NO SCIENCE to support these claims. Most problems with domestic dogs are due to the fact that these dogs have been inbred for many, many generations to produce the breeds. Dogs have been evolving alongside humans for more than 30,000 years eating our cooked scraps. Dogs are carnivores, but not fastidious, and are capable of thriving on almost any diet. Raw food is no more appropriate nor “natural” for dogs than it is for us. These types of diets are also a public health risk, as they have been shown to transmit pathogenic bacteria and parasites. Few veterinarians recommend this, and for good reason, the ones that do can’t back it up with science.

5 Stars Must read for anyone considering RAW
I had never heard of anyone feeding their dog’s Raw meat until I saw a question on yahoo. Quickly I was intrigued by it and it made sense to me if our dogs basically have the same digestive system as their wolf cousins then why aren’t we feeding them a similar diet? Why is it that dogs for thousands of years lived perfectly fine off of scraps from the family meal, pieces of the kill that the family did not eat or even doing a little prey hunting of their own. Yet now we find the need to feed them a diet of mostly grains and questionable meat that goes into it? Fact is that dogs are having more and more health issues then they have ever had and again this is a creature that has lived among man for about 14,000 years.

When ever I get a new puppy maybe sometimes this year or next year I plan on feeding him raw, as well as any other dog(s) [or even cats] that I get in my lifetime. I am just sorry I didn’t learn about this sooner so that my late dog could have had a mostly raw diet as well. This is a must read book for anyone researching the raw diet it is very easy to read and is also a quick read as well. It should calm some nerves and fears one might have. It shows that feeding raw does not have to complicated measuring everything out perfectly, that balance is not achieved in one meal but is achieved over time. That Raw feeding is not as costly as some people may thing. It can be cheaper if not around the same cost as a top line kibble (i.e. Blue Buffalo), plus your dog has the potential to be much healthier and so your vet bills will likely be less. There are even quit a few ways people can go about getting free meat.

4 Stars Raw food for dummies
This book should really be called “raw food for dummies”. It’s GREAT it helped me understand not only why I should do this but how I can. I tells you everything from what you need how to get it, how to prepare it, and how to feed it. I don’t think I would have made the switch without it!

5 Stars Demystifies Raw Feeding
I loved the authors approach to raw feeding. She is realistic and provides a great guideline to start raw feeding. In the end, it’s not the rocket science most of us make it out to be and my my highly allergic french bulldogs are thriving and hopping, skipping, and jumping all the way to their bowls every night!

4 Stars This is where to start…
If you consider feeding your dog raw food but need a little “encouragement” to make the final move… this is the book. If you are already convinced and need a little “know-how” and not the lenghty academics on the subject… this is the book. The author shared her experience in a quick read while sharing a few tricks. So if you don’t know if you want to do it, start here!
