5 Stars The Idiot’s Guide to Glycemic Index Weightloss
I’ve been doing glycemic index food intake for eight years. I’m 60 yrars old and people are always amazed by how healthy and energetic I am. The glycemic index diet helps buid body muscle and reduce body fat it is as simple as that. Muscle burns calories so once you stick to this way of eating it supports a healthy lifestyle. Muscle also supports the skeletal structure which I think helps reduce back and joint problems.
I love this book,

4 Stars informative
The weight loss book is quite informative as to how & why this way of eating should work. I did find the holiday eating to be a bit restrictive, but to each his own. How many people will bring their own food in a baggie? Overall it is good.
5 Stars Saved My Life and Helped Me Lose 9 lbs. in 8 Days!
I’ve had Type II Diabetes for about 2 years. I *thought* it was under control. In fact, my testing showed about 6 months ago everything was normal. So, I discontinued my medicine. MISTAKE! 10 days ago my blood sugar skyrocketed to over 300 and medication wasn’t taking it down. I had to do some fast damage control and this was one of 3 books I bought. IT IS FANTASTIC - just like all the 5 star reviews have said.
While I got the book for health reasons - part of which is to lose weight - it is ideal for anyone who wants to feel better and drop some pounds. I have lost 9 lbs. in 8 days. I’ve had no sugar (soda, sweets, etc.) and have selected only the low GI carbs. I FEEL GREAT! I no longer have the afternoon slumps, I sleep better, and I’m eating more food than ever before.
Honestly, it’s not that hard to follow. The author gives you lists of foods and explains everything. I was fascinated by the ‘free foods’ as well as why acidic foods work with sugar levels. It’s just full of great information - non of which I’ve ever found on the internet or elsewhere.
Now…if you think you cannot tear yourself away from anything sweet, read the book. You can eat sweets (like dark chocolate) as long as you limit the quantity/volume based upon the glycemic load. Honestly, once you haven’t eaten sugar for even a few days and you get over the withdrawal, the minute you eat/drink something with sugar in it, you’ll be shocked at how sweet it is. Plus, your cravings for carbs stops. I know: I didn’t believe it either but now I want to scream it from the rooftops. Now, if you really really really have to have sugar, search for some low GI desserts. (I bought a cookbook that waffles and pancake recipes for breakfast, as well as some wonderful desserts.)
I have already sent this book to a friend who has been told to lose 30 lbs. by her doctor. I take the book with me everywhere - even the store. I highly recommend it…for the content, the manner in which it’s conveyed, and upbeat style.
5 Stars GREAT BOOK!!
This book is a great help. I have learned so much and am not finished reading it yet. I am down about six pounds so far and have not been hungry or had the “chocolate and sweet cravings”.
3 Stars Not for Vegetarians
Like a previous reviewer, I was not impressed with the authors’ views about vegetarians using the GI program. I actually felt they wrote with contempt about vegetarians and vegetarian products, even suggesting that soy was somehow harmful (do the Japanese know about this?).
The book was reasonably useful with information about the GI system but I will not be purchasing it (I borrowed it from the library) because of their anti-vegetarian sentiments. There are many other books out there about the GI system which would suit me better.
One other thing - (this may have been fixed with a second printing) the editing of this book was dreadful. Many of the boxes with helpful hints dropped words at the end.
